SAMBALPUR: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday arrested an Associate Professor (Surgery) of VIMSAR at Burla here for demanding a bribe of `10,000 from a villager of Jharpali under Ambabhona police limits in Bargarh district for performing operation and extending post-operative care to his brother-in-law.
Sources said Gobinda Duan, brother-in-law of Charan Bhoi, was admitted at VIMSAR on November 23. The operation was performed by Associate Professor Saroj Kumar Sethy on November 25.
Aggrieved by the bribe demand by the doctor, Bhoi reported the matter to Sambalpur Vigilance. The Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and caught Sethy red-handed while he was accepting bribe of `10,000 from Bhoi at his official chamber in the surgery ward. The bribe money was recovered from Sethy. A case has been registered and Sethy was forwarded to court.
