BHUBANESWAR: A national seminar on the philosophy of Thakur Abhiram Paramhansa Deb was held at Cuttack on Friday. The seminar was organised by Abhiram Saraswat Parishad to commemorate the death anniverssary of Thakur's foremost disciple Sri Baikuntha Nath Acharya.


Addressing the occasion, former minister Matlub Ali said Odisha has been the birth place of many illustrious personalities who have enriched its spiritual tradition. Giving example of Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Swami Vivekananda, Ali said Abhiram Deb is known only in coastal Odisha because of neglect by the Government and his disciples. Eminent Kriya Yoga Guru Paramhansa Prajnananda ji said Abhiram Deb's works are a rare combination of Vaishnavite and Vedantic philosophies. He said time has come to glorify his teachings.


Retired deputy director of Higher Education department Baisnab Charan Mohanty, president of Utkal Sahitya Samaj, Cuttack Dr Vijayananda Singh, retired professor of Sanskrit University, Puri Dr Brajakishore Swain also spoke.


Founder of Prachi Sanskriti Gabesana Kendra, Puri Hansanath Sahu, professor of Viswabharati, Shantiniketan, Harekrushna Mishra, Dr Bibhuti Bhusan Mohapatra of Rajdhani college here and social worker Sulata De presented papers in the seminar.
