DHENKANAL:  In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old woman was rescued by the police on Wednesday in a critical condition from a forest near Kathagada after being allegedly raped, thrashed and dumped by her lover on Monday.


 The accused has been identified as Sibasis Mohanty and  he had a love affair with the girl for the last three years. The two had planned to marry despite opposition from the parents, police sources said .

Sibasis belongs to Nagena village.  According to the victim, her lover called her to the forest on Monday evening. The accused then raped and thrashed her severely and fled the spot. She was lying inside the forest since Monday as she was unable to move. She sustained multiple injuries on her face and body.


 A  local spotted the woman on Wednesday and informed the police. Police arrived at the spot, rescued the woman and admitted her to Dhenkanal headquarters hospital.
  Town Police station Inspector in-charge A Dalua said, “we have detained the accused for interrogation.”
