JEYPORE : Three members of a family were killed in a landslide near Seuni village under Jaharigam police limits in Nabarangpur district on Friday.


According to sources, six members of a family went to Manguli hill near the village for digging red earth when the loose soil caved in burying the family members under it. Three persons died on the spot. They are Chandra Gouda, Niledri Gouda and Radhika Gouda. 


Three others __ Bhagavati, Jayamani and Gajamanti __ were rescued by the villagers and rushed to Umerkote hospital. Medical sources said the condition of one of the injured is critical. 


It is a regular practice among the villagers to collect red earth from Manguli hill for painting their houses during festivals. As Parab is nearing, they had gone to collect the earth when the mishap occurred. Senior police officials from Umerkote rushed to the spot. Fire service personnel were also alerted.
