Couple among three held for theft bid at ATM 

Three persons, including a couple, were  arrested by Kujang police for attempted ATM theft on Tuesday.

JAGATSINGHPUR: Three persons, including a couple, were  arrested by Kujang police for attempted ATM theft on Tuesday.

Sources said three miscreants attempted to loot money from SBI ATM, Kujang branch on Monday night. They also damaged a CCTV camera and destroyed other equipment using an iron rod and cutting machines.

On a tip off, police raided the ATM and arrested the three. They are Babul Swain (37) and his wife Nili (32) hailing from Badang village and their aide Sujit Swain of the same village under Kujang police limits. Police seized a Bolero and other equipment from their possession.

IIC of Kujang police station Bichitrananda Samal said police registered a case after receiving FIR from SBI branch manager.

On the other hand, two other ATMs of SBI at Sanpur and Gadama of the district have been shut down due to theft. People, who are already in trouble due to cash crunch, are facing inconvenience after the closure of ATMs.

Channel Manager, SBI ATM, Pramoda Chakara said there are 44 ATMs of the bank in the district of which three have been shut down in rural areas. It will take time to reopen those as police investigation is on, he added.
