Boundary wall coming up around Allipingal jail

THE district administration has decided to provide one acre land to the State Prison department for extension of 30-metre stretch from  Allipingal sub-jail premises and construction of a boundary wall

JAGATSINGHPUR: THE district administration has decided to provide one acre land to the State Prison department for extension of 30-metre stretch from  Allipingal sub-jail premises and construction of a boundary wall, in a bid to prevent supply of narcotics and cell phones to jail inmates. The decision was taken after the jail inmates were found possessing  illegal  items during a recent raid.

On Friday, Collector Yamini Sarangi, along with Sub-collector Narahari Sethy,  revenue officials and engineers of RD department, visited Allipingal sub-jail and identified the land for the construction of the stretch and erection of the boundary wall.  Sources said  the inmates easily get contrabands as the jail is located near the main road and has no boundary wall.

Moreover, the prisoners have been indulging in illegal activities from  the jail premises by using cell phones, which are provided to them by their associates, taking advantage of the absence of boundary wall.  Senior police officials suspect a nexus between the jailor, warden and inmates for the supply of these items.  During the process of investigation, a jail superintendent was arrested for his alleged involvement in the nefarious activities.

The Sub-collector said the administration has identified the land and demarcation of one acre will be done on Saturday. After demarcation, the land will be handed over to the jail authority for construction of road under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
Meanwhile, the jail authorities have also demanded installation of jammer, CCTV cameras and erection of watch tower to monitor the movement of the inmates.
