IAF air show set to take off tomorrow

BHUBANESWAR: With the Aerobatic Teams of Indian Air Force (IAF) getting ready for the Surya Kiran AT, Sarang and Akash Ganga performances over the vast stretch of Kathajodi river bed, the denizens of the Millennium City are all set to have a visual treat on Friday.
HAWK aircraft will be used for Surya Kiran, ALH for Sarang display and Mi-17/Mi-18 aircraft for Akash Ganga display during the air show which is being organised to commemorate the birth centenary of former chief minister Biju Patnaik.

Sources said Biju Patnaik International Airport is being used as the base for the display which will be conducted near Kabi Baishnab Pani park at Khannagar on Cuttack Ring Road from 10.45 am to 11.45 am.
Sale of meat and fish has been banned within five nautical miles of the display area till the end of the show. Similarly, widespread anti-bird activities have been undertaken by the CMC. Open dumping yards near the display area have been covered with polythene sheets.

‘’It has also been planned to burst crackers at both north and south banks of the river with a distance of 500 metres from 10 am to 10.30 am to scare away birds. Arrangements have been made for commentary of the event by the IAF team,’’ said an official.
Schools and colleges at Cuttack will remain closed to enable students watch the grand event. Surya Kiran AT and Akash Ganga performances were conducted by the IAF in January 2010 at the same spot during National Youth Festival.
