3 held for attack on builder

The Commissionerate of Police on Saturday arrested three persons on charges of brutally assaulting a businessman a few days back in the City.

BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate of Police on Saturday arrested three persons on charges of brutally assaulting a businessman a few days back in the City.

The accused were identified as Ashish Samal alias Kanhu, Lipuna Jena of Jharpada and Biswajit Pradhan of Jajpur.

The trio had accosted City-based builder Dinesh Rath and his friend near Ram Mandir square on December 15 and attacked him and one of his friends. They had also damaged Rath’s car which was parked nearby. Kharvela Nagar police had registered an FIR on the basis of Rath’s statement and launched a search for the assailants on the basis of CCTV footage of Ram Mandir square.

On Saturday, the cops raided a deserted spot at Cuttack and nabbed the trio. Preliminary investigation revealed that Kanhu and Lipuna were the prime accused while Pradhan had assisted them in fleeing the spot after committing the crime, IIC Sanjeev Satpathy said.

The accused were produced in Bhubaneswar SDJM court which has remanded them in judicial custody.
