ATHAGARH : The villagers of Sasanka under Chhagaon panchayat are sitting on a dharna in front of the office of Sub-Collector from Monday demanding appointment of a regular PDS distributor in their village.

The distributor, Upendra Sahoo is entangled in several irregularities, the villagers alleged and demanded his removal.

The villagers met  Sub-Collector Harish Nayak here who sacked Upendra on July 19 and tagged the names of villagers in Chhagaon, about five km from their habitation to collect PDS goods.

Though the Sub-Collector and ACSO Nirad Ranjan Das assured to sort out their problems nothing has been done yet, the villagers alleged. Protesting this, over 100 villagers are on a dharna on the Sub-Collector office verandah.

Meanwhile, the villagers have appealed the Chief Minister to resolve the matter failing which they have threatened to gherao the office of the CM if the matter is not settled at the earliest. Nayak has met the agitators but reportedly denied to appoint a new distributor since election Code of Conduct is in place.
