Wanted criminal arrested

BERHAMPUR : Dreaded criminal Syam Sundar Gouda Cheru of Lathi village sustained bullet injury on his right leg during an exchange of fire with Digapahandi police on Tuesday.

Cheru was involved in eight criminal cases and was wanted in two cases under Sadar police  limits.


According to SP Asish Singh, police found Cheru with his three associates between Chanchedapali and Barapali under Digapahandi in the evening. When police tried to arrest him, Cheru hurled four country bombs at the police team and also opened fire. Police retaliated the firing and two bullets hit Cheru’s right leg. Two police personnel were also injured in the incident. 


Police seized a live bomb, one country-made pistol and three rounds of live ammunition from Cheru and sent him to the hospital. 


Meanwhile, his aides managed to flee. Search operation is on to nab the three associates, the SP added.
