SHG members in Cuttack allege misuse of Jan Dhan accounts

CUTTACK: Illegal transaction of lakhs of rupees allegedly made after demonetisation with an aim to turn black money into white through Jan Dhan accounts has come to light in Gopinathpur branch of State Bank of India (SBI) under Salepur block here.


As many as 13 women of Tulasi self-help group (SHG) of Padmapur on Wednesday lodged an FIR with Jagatpur police regarding the illegal transaction made though their Jan Dhan accounts without their knowledge. In the FIR, the SHG members alleged that without their knowledge, unknown miscreants have made online transactions of `2,500 each for seven to eight times through their accounts in connivance with some bank employees. 


However, they did not know the persons who had deposited the money in their accounts through online money transfer system. The women sought an  investigation into the incident and action against the accused. 


Contacted, ACP Trinath Mishra said a case has been registered in this regard and investigation is on. ‘’The alleged matter is being verified and action will be initiated as per law against the accused after enquiry,’’ he said.
