BHUBANESWAR: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday approached the State Election Commission (SEC) alleging that the Centre has violated the model code of conduct by advertising several schemes launched by it on local Odia television channels and demanded that it should be stopped.

A delegation of BJD, led by vice-president Surya Narayan Patro, submitted a memorandum to the SEC in this regard. “Government of India is advertising programmes like UJALA and Swachh Bharat in local Odia TV channels which appears to be in violation of model conduct imposed by the SEC,” the memorandum alleged and requested the Commission to look into this and stop all such advertisements forthwith and take appropriate action against the violators as per law.

BJD MLAs from Bhubaneswar Bijaya Kumar Mohanty and Priyadarshi Mishra accompanied Patro.
