BHUBANESWAR: As filling of nominations for zilla parishad will start from January 11, the State BJP has asked the district election committees of the party to finalise the name of candidates by January 7.
The party has already received a list of probable candidates from each of the 36 organisational districts and about 40 to 60 percent candidates have been finalised during the three-day consultations with district election committees from December 27 to 29, BJP general secretary Bhrugui Baxipatra said.
The district election committees comprising president and general secretary of district concerned, local MLAs/MLA candidates, state BJP general secretary in charge of district and district pravaris have been given four days time from January 2 to 5, 2017 to prepare final list of candidates.
The state election committee of the party will take a final call on the selection of candidates if the district
committee failed to make a choice, Baxipatra said adding, winnability will be the primary criteria during selection of candidates.
Candidates will file nominations for zill parishad elections, which will be fought on party symbols, from January 11 to 17.
The state leadership of the BJP today started the process of consultation with district functionaries of the party for selection of candidates for the ensuing panchayat elections commencing from February 13, 2017.
District and block election committees of BJP have been given complete autonomy for selection of candidates for panchayat samitis and gram panchayats elections. They have been advised to devise mechanism for selection of candidates in a most transparent manner.
Baxipatra said campaign for the zill parishad elections will start from January 22 after withdrawal of nominations.
The party has decided to highlight the failures of the state government in providing basic amenities to its people and successful programmes launched by the Narendra Modi government at Centre to counter the BJD.
