JAIPUR: A 40 year-old man allegedly committed suicide minutes after killing his wife in their house at Jhinkiri village under Binjharpur police limits in the district on Friday.
The accused, Gouranga Malik, took the extreme step following a family fued. Gouranga of Botaldanga village under Mangalpur police limits had married Jharana (35) of Jhikiri village about 12 years back and the couple was residing in her native village. The couple has three children, including two daughters but they often used to quarrel over domestic issues, police said.
“On Friday morning, the couple had a fierce fight and in a fit of rage, Gouranga attacked Jharana with a chopper, killing her on the spot. He confined the three children to a room of the house, bolted it from outside and fled. He was found hanging from a banyan tree on the outskirts of the village,” said Asit Kumar Mohanty, IIC of Binjharpur police station.
The couple’s 11 year-old daughter who was a witness narrated the incident. On being informed by locals, Binjharpur police reached the spot and recovered the two bodies and sent those for post-mortem. “We have registered a murder case and seized the weapon used in the crime,” police said.
