Online relief for drought-hit farmers in Odisha

Drought-affected farmers of three districts in Odisha were on Saturday given special assistance of `100 per quintal of paddy through e-transfer system.

BHUBANESWAR: Drought-affected farmers of three districts in Odisha were on Saturday given special assistance of `100 per quintal of paddy through e-transfer system launched by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The special assistance was given to farmers from Bargarh, Balangir and Khurda. The compensation amount will be directly credited to bank accounts of farmers whose crops were destroyed due to drought in 2015 Kharif season. At least three lakh farmers will be benefited from the scheme.

Farmers of the remaining 25 of 28 drought-affected districts will get the special assistance in different phases, a release from the Chief Minister's office (CMO) said.Minister of State for Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Sanjay Dasburma discussed with farmers of the three districts through video conferencing. Several Ministers, Chief Secretary AP Padhi and senior officials were present.
