Juvenile arrested for loot attempt

KENDRAPARA: A juvenile was arrested on Monday on the charges of attempting to break into an ATM in Kendrapara district on Sunday night. Four of his accomplices are absconding. The five including an IT professional had entered the ATM of Indian Bank at Danapur village under Kendrapara Sadar police limits with a gas-cutter and tried to break open the machine.

They disabled the CCTV camera installed in the ATM by disconnecting power cables. Unable to break open the cash box of the ATM machine, they entered the bank but failed to break the strong room. Receiving information, the bank manager, Rajendra Prasad Sethi filed a police complaint on Monday.

Police said the miscreants managed to take away the hard disks of the CCTVs installed in both the bank and ATM. Apparently, there was no security personnel deployed in either the bank or ATM. On a tip off, police detained a 16-year-old boy of Bharatpur village and during interrogation, he confessed that they tried to loot the ATM and bank on Sunday night. Police seized a gas cylinder and a gas cutter from the boy’s house. Police said efforts are on to nab the other four accused. The boy was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board in Kendrapara on Monday, which remanded him in the observation home in Angul.
