JAIPUR: Former Dhamasala legislator, Guru Charan Tikayat joined the BJP on Sunday. BJP leaders said Tikayat would help strengthen the party’s base ahead of the Panchayat polls in the State.
“Tikayat is a senior politician and has a good network in Dharmasala constituency,” said Rajashree Dash, secretary of BJP, Jajpur district unit. Tikayat was the member of the Assembly from Dharmasala constituency from 1990 to 1995 in Biju Patnaik led Janata Dal government.
Earlier, he was the chairman of Dharmasala block. He played a key role in organising the non Congress (the then Janata party and later Janata Dal) votes in Dharmasala constituency for the last two decades.
