Former SCS secretary arrested for Rs 43 crore fraud

Ananta Prasad Kar, former Secretary in-charge of Govindapur Service Cooperative Society (SCS), was arrested by Balasore Vigilance Division on Friday.

BALASORE: Ananta Prasad Kar, former Secretary in-charge of Govindapur Service Cooperative Society (SCS), was arrested by Balasore Vigilance Division on Friday on charges of misappropriation of Government money amounting to Rs 43.38 crore. The misappropriation took place between 2007-08 and 2013-14 during Kar’s tenure as secretary of the society.

He had manipulated official records and registers of the society to execute the fraud. The matter came to light after the Auditor General of Cooperative Society Odisha conducted a Special Audit of the Accounts of Govindapur SCS which operates under the jurisdiction of Khaira branch of Balasore Bhadrak Central CoOperative Bank. Kar has been booked under Section 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 409, 465, 468, 477(A) and 201 of the IPC.
