BALANGIR: Members of the district RTI forum on Monday demanded a probe into alleged irregularities in the last year’s paddy procurement and action against erring officials and millers. During a meeting here, senior activist of the forum Nilamani Joshi said based on the procurement report, it was found that large scale irregularities were made in Deogaon block where procurement had crossed over `20 crore of purchase limit.
Similarly, paddy procurement has been made against ghost beneficiaries’ name and fake RoR, he alleged. Last year, farmers of several parts of the district had faced severe drought situation and above two dozens of them had committed suicide. In such a situation, how the civil supply department procured paddy more than hundred per cent of its target, wondered Joshi.
Though the forum led by Joshi had submitted a 67-page complaint along with relevant documents last year, the district administration is yet to inquire into the matter. The documents contain ample proof about the dubious methods adopted by the officials and millers during procurement, he said.
