BHUBANESHWAR: Odisha Governor S C Jamir and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday visited AIIMS, Bhubaneswar and AMRI Hospital where fire victims and patients shifted from SUM Hospital are admitted. The CM instructed the hospital authorities to give their best to save lives of the victims.

Director General (fire services) Binay Kumar Behera also convened an emergency meeting to review the fire safety measures adopted by the hospitals and clinical establishments in the State. In June, a guideline was issued asking all to strictly adhere to it.

Meanwhile, Health Department has opened a control room to monitor the treatment of fire victims and ensure transportation of dead bodies to their respective places.

Additional Director of National Health Mission (NHM) and Joint Director of Medical Education and Training are monitoring the treatment of patients evacuated from SUM Hospital. The patients have been admitted in both private and government hospitals.

The control room will obtain information on patients’ status every hour from concerned hospitals and also ensure that no patient is charged for their treatment. Arrangements also have been made to transport the bodies to their respective places or Swargadwar at Puri.

On the other hand, taking suo-mottu cognisance of media reports, Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has directed DG (fire services) and Secretary of Home Department to submit a detailed report within three weeks.

The SUM hospital authorities have, however, announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to kin of each deceased person and free treatment to all injured patients. The State Government has so far confirmed death of 20 persons in the fire mishap that took place at about 7.30 pm on Monday.
