Fire safety squad in  Cuttack

CUTTACK: Following the tragic fire mishap at Sum Hospital which claimed 20 lives, the district administration has formed a special squad to check fire safety measures at Government-run and private hospitals in the city.
The squad comprising Executive Engineers of General Electrical Division and officials of Roads and Building Department, Fire Officer and CESU will check SCB, Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre, Sishu Bhawan and City Hospital and submit report, said Collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra.


Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) has also been instructed to prepare a detailed list of private hospitals and nursing homes to ascertain whether they possess valid registration and fire safety certificates, Mishra said.
While hospitals and nursing homes having more than three-storey buildings, 30 beds and one Intensive Care Unit (ICU) will be enumerated in A category, others having two-storey building and less than 30 beds and no ICU facilities will be considered in category B.  

PIL in High Court

A PIL was filed in Orissa High Court on Wednesday against different commercial establishments for gross violation of fire safety norms.


Alleging that there are no fire safety measures in establishments such as private hospitals, nursing homes, malls, hotels, cinema halls, kalyan mandaps and apartments located in and around Cuttack City, where there is a regular flow of public, the PIL filed by advocate Arun Kumar Buddhia pleaded before the court seeking direction to Home Secretary, DG of Fire Services, Commissioner of Police, Collector, DCP, Cuttack and others.
