BHUBANESWAR:A female constable attempted suicide by consuming poison on the premises of Mahila Police Station here on Monday. The cop, identified as Gitanjali Nayak, was admitted to the Capital Hospital in a serious condition.
Nayak was rushed to the hospital by a PCR van after two police station staff saw her collapsing. Till last reports came in, Nayak was battling for life and the doctors were contemplating to refer her to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.
While reasons behind Nayak taking the extreme step are yet to be ascertained, police sources said she had borrowed money from people including the police station staff for which she was under constant pressure.
DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said a case has been registered in this connection and further investigation is on. “Whether she was under pressure from the police station staff because of loan is being probed,” Bhoi added.
The woman was running a chit fund business for the last two years. On Monday morning, two depositors had come to the police station and demanded their money back, the sources added.
