SUM fire mishap: Khandagiri Cops quiz SOA Vice-Chancellor

BHUBANESWAR: Khandagiri Police on Monday examined SOA University VC Dr Amit Banerjee in connection with the fire mishap in SUM Hospital that led to death of 27 persons. He was quizzed on the measures taken to prevent and control fire on the health facility campus. 

Banerjee was also asked to produce documents to prove his claims. The police also visited Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) and sought relevant documents on SUM Hospital. Officials of Kalpana fire station were also quizzed. 

Joint Director, Medical Education and Training Umakanta Satpathy said as per their demand, all documents related to registration of the health facility were produced. The police were, however, tight-lipped on whether there were any discrepancies in the documents. "The documents and statements of the officials are being verified," said a police official. 

On Sunday, police had questioned dean and registrar of the varsity. While the principal promoter of the institution has already surrendered over the issue and is now in judicial custody, police are likely to arrest a few more officials of the institution.Meanwhile, RDC (Central range) AB Ota has sought affidavits from patients, hospital staff and public who were witness to the tragic fire mishap.
