JAIPUR: Pre-poll violence was witnessed at the Mahapurush Hadidas Mahavidyalaya in Chhatia on Monday when two students’ groups clashed with each other and ransacked the college properties.

Police said two groups of students of Mahapurush Hadidas Mahavidyalaya clashed over the ensuing poll and this led to arson in the campus. Apparently, while one group of students is supporting holding of the election, another is opposing it. As fallout of the conflict, a group of students ransacked the admission section of college and resorted to arson.

On being informed, local fire fighters reached the spot and doused the flames. Police had to disperse the irate students. Following the incident, Darpan Tehsildar Arun Kumar Biswal visited the spot and held discussions with the students and college authorities.

A platoon of police has been deployed in the college to avoid further tension. An FIR has been lodged with the local police.
