KHANDAPARA : About 60 contractors on Monday locked the office of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS), Nayagarh division over non-payment of their dues to the tune of `11 crore for the last two years.
Contractors’ Association leader Aswini Kumar Lenka said despite repeated requests to the Executive Engineer of the division, no action has been taken so far to release the payment.
Meanwhile, Executive Engineer PK Dey is on leave from August 12 on health grounds. Around 150 employees of the division are deprived of salary for the last two months, he said.
Demanding immediate payment of their dues, contractors locked the division office and threatened to continue the strike till their demand is fulfilled. On the other hand, the employees’ union of the division also threatened to cease work if their monthly salaries are not released within a week.
Nayagarh Collector Arindam Dakua said steps will be taken on both the issues after receiving information from the office concerned.
