RI held for bribery

BHUBANESWAR: The Cuttack Vigilance Division on Wednesday arrested a revenue inspector (RI) posted in Dhenkanal district on charges of bribery.
The RI, Pravati Swain, was caught red-handed while accepting an illegal gratification of `5,000 from one Pradip Biswal for writing an inspection report in his favour.
Vigilance sources said Biswal had applied for a legal heir certificate in his name. Swain, who is posted at Sadangi Circle under Gondia Tehsil office, was directed by the Tehsildar to conduct an inspection on the matter.
However, despite Biswal’s repeated request, Swain delayed the process and demanded `5,000 to write the inspection report. Biswal reported the matter to the Vigilance Division following which SP Sudha Singh laid a trap and caught the RI while she was taking the bribe money.
Swain was booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and produced in court. Further investigation is on, Singh added.
