Women of poll violence-hit Podana stage dharna

As many as 17 women of Podana village under Niali block on Thursday staged a dharna in front of the Office of Director General of Police here along with their children demanding immediate action again

CUTTACK: As many as 17 women of Podana village under Niali block on Thursday staged a dharna in front of the Office of Director General of Police here along with their children demanding immediate action against the activists of a political party involved in violence during panchayat polls. The women alleged that instead of suppressing the poll-related violence, the ruling local politician and police are trying to flare it up. No step has yet been initiated to bring back normalcy to the village, they alleged. ''At a time when all male members of their families are absconding in fear of police arrest, activists of ruling party are torturing them physically and mentally. Though they have been complaining about this to police, no action has yet been taken," they said. The dharna was withdrawn after Additional DG Satyajit Mohanty assured them of necessary action within three days.
