60 Hindol families turn homeless

As many as 60 families have been rendered homeless and 250 rooms reduced to ashes in a fire mishap at Dhobaninandar village under Hindol block on Tuesday afternoon.

DHENKANAL: As many as 60 families have been rendered homeless and 250 rooms reduced to ashes in a fire mishap at Dhobaninandar village under Hindol block on Tuesday afternoon. One person was injured.

Sources said the fire started from a short circuit in a house and later spread to neighbourhood. Fire brigade personnel from different stations rushed to the spot and brought the flames under control.

One Dayanidhi Sahoo sustained burn injuries and was admitted to local hospital.Hindol Sub-Collector A K Champtiray and revenue officials reached the spot and are taking stock of the situation. Cooked food will be  provided for three days and polythene supplied to the victims.

A team of doctors is scheduled to reach here on Wednesday. Shelter has been provided to pregnant and lactating mothers with special treatment in schools, Champtiray said. Revenue officials are assessing the damage and taking steps for compensation.
