Record 85.28 percent clear Odisha HSC exam

The success rate in the annual High School Certificate (HSC) examination has touched an all-time high with a whopping 85.28 per cent students clearing the test.

CUTTACK:  The  success rate in the annual High School Certificate (HSC) examination has touched an all-time high with a whopping 85.28 per cent students clearing the test. Of the 5,90,982 students who appeared for the examination, as many as 5,02,999 students have come out successful.


Results of the HSC examination, conducted from February 28 to March 10 across 2,938 examination centres by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha, were declared here on Wednesday.


The results, which were announced by School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra and Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the department Ranjana Chopra at BSE head office here, reflected around 2 per cent surge in overall pass percentage this year against 83.72 per cent in 2016.

 The Minister said, "There has been a remarkable improvement in the overall performance of students in all the streams this year. Besides, there has been a visible improvement in the overall pass percentage over the last four years.”


In regular stream, a total of 86.37 per cent students passed the HSC exams against 85.20 per cent in 2016. A total of 5,63,758 regular students had appeared for the tests this year of whom 4,85,989 students came out successful.

Similarly, the pass percentage of ex-regular students was 62.76 against 58.22 in 2016. Of the total 22,254 ex-regular students, 13,918 cleared the tests.

While 2,417 students achieved A1 grade by securing more than 90 per cent marks, 23,489 obtained A2 grade ( 80-89 per cent), 62,193 secured B1 grade (70-79 per cent), 1,02,395 got B2 grade (60-69 per cent), 1,27,266 secured C grade (50-59 per cent), 1,24,902 obtained D grade (40-49 per cent) and 60,218 students got E grade (30-39 per cent  marks). The remaining 86,802 students secured F grade.

Retaining their supremacy over boys, as many as 2,55,051 girls passed the HSC examination this year against 2,47,948 boys. While the pass percentage of boys was 86.04, that of the girls was 86.69. Of 2,417 A1 grade holders in regular stream, 1,281 are boys and the rest 1,136 are girls.

Among the 30 districts, Deogarh posted the highest 84.78 pass percentage. The lowest 43.96 percentage was reported in Malkangiri.

BSE president Susant Kumar Das said, ‘’For the first time, the Board has initiated steps to provide scanned copies of OMR answer sheets to students through the official website by Wednesday evening.’’
