SC/ST students pass Odisha HSC with flying colours

The all-time record pass percentage in the annual High School Certificate (HSC) examination-2017 has seen the SC and ST community students come out with flying colours.

CUTTACK: The all-time record pass percentage in the annual High School Certificate (HSC) examination-2017 has seen the SC and ST community students come out with flying colours.

In an impressive show, the SC and ST students have secured a whopping 83 per cent success rate this year which is a huge improvement over last year’s 59.64 per cent and 58.98 per cent respectively.

This year, of 1,08,601 SC students who appeared for the HSC exams, 88,443 cleared the tests. Similarly, 1,18, 254 ST students appeared for the exam of whom 98,949 passed.

As many as 86 SC and 52 ST students secured the A1 grade. In 2016, as many as 69 SC and 18 ST students had secured A1 grade. However, not a single student from Ex-Regular, Correspondent Course (Regular) and Correspondent Course Ex-Regular streams managed to secure A Grade. Of the total 23,489 A2 grade holders, 23,472 are Regular, 15 Ex-Regular and two Correspondent Course (Regular).

The HSC results were announced at the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) head office here on Wednesday.

The Board also announced results of Sanskrit Madhyama Examination  with a pass percentage of 91.42 against last year’s 88.91 per cent. Total 3,890 students had appeared for the Madhyama examination of whom 3,313 passed. However, not a single Madhyama student was able to secure A1 grade.

As many as 748 High Schools achieved 100 per cent result. Last year, 715 High Schools had recorded 100 per cent result, School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra said and added that the department would make an analysis of the schools which have secured Nil result and chalk out remedial measures. As many as 22 High Schools have got nil result against 21 last year.

According to BSE sources, out of 6,05,071 students of 8,809 High Schools who had enrolled for HSC examinations, 5,90,982 belonging to Regular, Ex-Regular and Correspondence Course (Regular and Ex-Regular) had appeared for the test. A total of 1,176 examinees were booked for malpractice.
