MALKANGIRI: Two ex-militia members suspected to be police informers were shot dead by armed Maoists in Kalimela block of Malkangiri district on Friday, the second such incident in less than a week. Earlier, left wing extremists had killed a man in Narayanpatna block of neighbouring Koraput district.

The deceased were identified as Bisu Kirsani (35) of Sudhakonda village and Rama Podiami (38) of Chheliamunda village under MV-79 police limits. They were militia members who had surrendered before police recently.

Police sources said at least 30 armed Maoists, suspectedly led by CPI (Maoist) district committee member Randev, dragged Rama Podiami out of his house at gun point late on Thursday night and later shot him dead.

The red rebels then entered Sudhakonda village and asked Bisu Kirsani to exit his house, before firing at him from close range.

On April 22, around 20 Maoists had dragged Ratanu Pidika of Pedaitiki village on suspicions of being a police informer. About 20 armed Maoists dragged him out of his home and killed him, his body was later found by locals on the outskirts of the village.
