VIMSAR strike enters third day; leaves Odisha health care in deadlock

SAMBALPUR:Cease work by post-graduate students and house surgeons of VIMSAR demanding removal of Director Aswini Pujahari entered the third day on Tuesday. Students are on dharna on the premises of the medical college while the cease work has partially affected health services in the premier health centre of the region.

In a bid to resolve the issue on Monday evening, the district administration had convened a meeting which was attended by Sambalpur Collector Samarth Verma, SP Sanjeev Arora, Sambalpur MLA Raseswari Panigrahi, Principal of VIMSAR RC Samantray and Superintendent Brajamohan Mishra. However, the meeting failed to end the deadlock.

On the other hand, a four-member delegation of the PG students called on  State Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena at Bhubaneswar over the issue on Tuesday.
Representative of the PG students Himansu Mishra said the Minister has assured the delegation that he would bring the matter to the notice of the Odisha Governor and  the Chief Minister and work for an amicable settlement of the issue. He said they will continue their cease work till fulfilment of their demand.

Meanwhile, Nagarik Kriyanusthan Committee has decided to stage mass dharna and protest meeting at Nelson Mandela Chowk here on Wednesday supporting the steps initiated by Pujahari for development of VIMSAR. They have also decided to unmask the group conspiring against Pujahari for their personal benefit.

Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kisore Das has also expressed his concern over the developments at VIMSAR. In a letter to the Chief Minister, Das has requested Naveen to intervene in the matter and convene an all-party meeting to resolve the issue.
