BHUBANESWAR: At least two students of Deba Ray College here sustained serious injuries following a clash on Saturday in whch some some outsiders were involved. The injured students have been identified as Siddharth Pradhan and Dilip Kumar of Plus III third year of the college.

According to Nayapalli police, a Plus III third year student had approached the police on August 10 alleging that a couple of Plus III first year students and some outsiders had passed lewd remarks at a girl student. However, the matter was later sorted out the same day. “On Saturday, a few students and some outsiders, who were involved in passing lewd remarks at the girl, beat up our classmates,” said Students’ Union president SK Akram.

Police, however, suspect it to be a case of pre-poll violence as the Students’ Union election is scheduled on September 23. “We are scanning the CCTV footage to identify the miscreants who beat up the students. A case has been registered and further investigation is on,” police said.
