No fire clearance for Capital Hospital’s new building

Bhubaneswar’s most crowded healthcare institute, Capital Hospital, is functioning without a fire clearance certificate.

BHUBANESWAR: Bhubaneswar’s most crowded healthcare institute, Capital Hospital, is functioning without a fire clearance certificate.Fire officials are yet to give a green signal to Capital Hospital’s newly constructed building providing mother and childcare services. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had inaugurated the unit in February last year.

A three-member team of the Fire Department had inspected the structural safety and fire fighting equipment of the building around six months back and had asked for certain modifications.
Sources said, the team had asked for some modifications in the fire detection systems and in the ramp constructed in the building.

Fire Officer, Central range, BB Das said, they are yet to give clearance to Capital Hospital’s mother and childcare services building. However, the hospital officials said, the modifications sought by the department are not feasible as it will require a lot of structural changes.

Meanwhile, Capital Hospital superintendent Manoranjan Dash said, the mother and childcare services building is fully operational. The unit is equipped with high-standard medical facilities. It has dedicated AC and non-AC cabins with price ranging from `500 to `1,500 per day.  The O&G as well as the paediatric wards are two of the most crowded units.
