ROURKELA: The International Day of Disabled Persons was observed with a host of programmes at Rourkela city and Sundargarh town on Sunday. The Home and Hope, an institution for differently abled-persons at Sector-17, along with Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), organised a rally and held a colourful function on its premises to mark the occasion.

The Regional Rehabilitation and Research Centre (RRRC) and Ashadeep, an institution for PwDs also took out a rally which culminated at Uditnagar Parade Ground. They also organised various competitions among different abled-persons. Similar programmes were also held by Sarthak school, an institution for differently abled-children at Bandhpali in the district.

Pradyumna gets disability award

Dhenkanal: Social activist Pradyumna Kumar Mohapatra received the Best Achievement Award for his outstanding performance in rehabilitating the differently abled-persons on the occasion of International Day of Disabled Persons on Sunday. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik handed over the award along with a cheque of `25,000 to him during a function in Bhubaneswar.

Mohapatra has been working for welfare of persons with disabilities (PwDs) for the last 17 years. On the occasion, the district administration also organised a rally in the town to create awareness on disability. Dhenkanal Sub-Collector Shilpa Sharma flagged off the rally in presence of DSWO S Mishra. Tricycles and bicycles were also distributed to PwDs.
