A Driver was killed when the mining vehicle  he was driving overturned and fell into a 70-ft-deep pit at Samaleswari open cast mine under Ib valley area of MCL on Monday night.

JHARSUGUDA: A Driver was killed when the mining vehicle  he was driving overturned and fell into a 70-ft-deep pit at Samaleswari open cast mine under Ib valley area of MCL on Monday night. The driver, Ram Singh of Jharkhand, died on the spot.

Workers of the mine stalled work and demanded a compensation of `20 lakh for the victim’s family.
Project Officer of Samaleswari open cast mine Vaijayanti Kumar said Renuka Coal Carrier, the firm that had engaged Singh in the mine, would pay the victim’s family `7.5 lakh while Samaleswari open cast mine will give a compensation of `5 lakh. Following the mishap, coal dispatch was stopped in the mine.
