Cops advise MLA’s ‘wife’ to move court

The Commissionerate of Police has not registered an FIR on the complaint of a woman who claimed to be Talcher

BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate of Police has not registered an FIR on the complaint of a woman who claimed to be Talcher MLA Braja Kishore Pradhan’s wife. The woman had alleged that Pradhan had married her in April, 2015 but later abandoned her and did not accept her as his wife.

On Monday, the Mahila Police made a diary entry and advised the woman to approach an appropriate forum with her complaint. Contacted, DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said the allegations amount to a case under Section 493 of the IPC which is not cognisable. ‘’We have conducted a preliminary inquiry and asked the complainant to move to the court,’’ he said.

On February 13, the woman had lodged a complaint with Mahila Police accusing the BJD MLA of refusing to give her the social status of a wife even after marrying her two years back. The woman had also alleged that she was tortured and threatened by the MLA if she revealed the matter to anybody.
