BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate of Police has formed a special team to nab proprietor of Rajdhani Furniture Birat Mohapatra who is on the run after an actress accused him of sexual abuse and torture.

Mohapatra had allegedly established physical relation with the actress, a West Bengal-based woman, on the pretext of marriage. According to a complaint lodged by the woman with Mahila Police, Mohapatra had given her a break in Odia movies by financing a project in which she was in the lead role.

He had then married her at a temple near Berhampur and the couple resided in a rented accommodation near Hi-Tech Hospital here. The woman was, however, forced to perform in dance bars against her will and was not paid, the complaint stated.

Moreover, Mohapatra had forced the woman to undergo abortions twice. She was kept in solitary confinement for several days and tortured. She escaped from the rented house and managed to reach a women’s helpline which assisted her in filing a complaint with the police.

Contacted, DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said after preliminary investigation, there is sufficient evidence against Mohapatra for his arrest. ‘’We have formed a special team which has launched a hunt for the accused,’’ he added.
