Parala King admitted to City hospital

Apollo Hospital authorities said Gopinath’s condition was stable and his treatment will continue at the facility from Friday.

BHUBANESWAR: After undergoing treatment for over five months at a private hospital in Chennai, Paralakhemundi Maharaja Gopinath Gajapati Narayan Deo was admitted to Apollo Hospital here on Friday.

The King landed in the State Capital in a flight with a team of doctors, accompanied by his daughter Kalyani Devi. He directly proceeded to Apollo Hospital in an ambulance from Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA).

Gopinath was earlier scheduled to arrive here on January 3 but the plan was deferred as his condition worsened during transit. He was being treated for multifarious disorders from hypertension, fractured leg and chest infection.

Kalyani had urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to shift her father to Bhubaneswar after there was considerable improvement in his health. The State Government consulted doctors at Chennai and approved the King’s transfer to Bhubaneswar.

A large number of supporters gathered at BPIA and Apollo Hospital to get a glimpse of the King.
Gopinath was taken to Chennai after his condition deteriorated at Paralakhemundi palace in August, 2016.  His supporters had alleged that palace manager Ananga Manjari Devi and her siblings had put the King under house arrest and were involved in financial misappropriation in the royal estate. A few days after the King was shifted from Paralakhemundi, Ananga, her two brothers and sister committed suicide under mysterious condition at their house in Jangam Sahi.

Earlier, the State Government had sent the then Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak to meet Gopinath and his family at the Chennai hospital and has so far sponsored the treatment of the royal family scion.

Apollo Hospital authorities said Gopinath’s condition was stable and his treatment will continue at the facility from Friday.
