The accused, Laxminarayan Prasad Bhujabal (37), an English teacher at Patakamunda High School in Chhendipada block of the district, has been suspended basing on the report of district education officer (DEO), said Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Srinibash Behera.

According to reports, before Christmas holidays after the school prayer was over, a Class 8 student of a nearby village complimented Bhujabal and he in return made sexual advances towards her.

Later, the girl narrated the incident to her family members, who in turn informed the fellow villagers. Similar allegations were made against the teacher in the past. Bhujabal has been teaching in the school for the last 10 years.

The villagers informed the DEO, who constituted an inquiry committee under block education officer. The committee on Thursday probed into the incident and found the allegations to be true. The villagers later forced the teacher to kneel down and tender his resignation. He has left the area after the incident.

No FIR has been filed in Chhendipada police station in this regard, said SDPO of Angul police station RN Deo.
