CUTTACK: Purighat police foiled an attempt to loot a jewellery shop at Nayasadak here on Tuesday night. The cops arrested four dacoits and recovered one 7.65 mm pistol, two live ammunitions, a chopper, a knife, six mobile phones and a bike from their possession.

The four arrested are Ajay Samal (35) of Jobra Malla Sahi, Asish Ballab Das (27) of Gopal Jew Lane Matha Sahi, Dibya Shakti Behera (24) of Rajabagicha and Satyajit Sahoo (23) of Dasarathpur in Jajpur.
DCP Sanjeev Arora said acting on a tip off, police raided Transport Field at Gopal Jew Lane in Choudhury Bazar where seven armed persons were planning to commit  dacoity. While police managed to nab four of them, three others escaped from the spot on two bikes.

During interrogation, the arrested persons confessed that they were preparing to commit dacoity in a jewellery shop at Nayasadak.

All the arrested persons are hardcore criminals. While six cases are pending against Samal, 13 cases are pending against Das. Similarly, while Behera is involved in six criminal cases, Sahoo was wanted in a firing case in the State Capital.

Search is on to nab the absconding criminals, Arora added.
