ROURKELA: Panic gripped the passengers of Bhubaneswar-Anand Bihar (New Delhi) Super Fast Express on Tuesday as the coaches got uncoupled from the engine at Birajapali near here.

The train on its way to Bhubaneswar was running several hours behind schedule and left Rourkela station after a change of engine at about 3 pm.

After travelling for 1.5 km, the coaches were left behind with a jerk as the train engine got uncoupled and moved some distance till the train driver realised it. Later, the engine was joined with the coaches and the train left on its scheduled journey.

Spokesman of Chakradharpur Division of South Eastern Railway (SER) Satyam Prakash said an inquiry would be conducted to ascertain the reason behind it. There was nothing to panic as in the case of uncoupling, both the engine and coaches get stopped automatically through the automatic braking system, he added.
