BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, on Monday, felicitated all the Indian medal winners of the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships which concluded on Sunday. The country registered its best ever medal haul in the games.
While `10 lakh each cash award was given to gold medallists, `7.5 lakh was given to each silver medal winner and ` 5 lakh to each bronze medallist. The Chief Minister handed over the cash prize to 29 winners, 12 gold, 5 silver and 12 bronze winners, at a special function, a day after the events concluded at Kalinga Stadium here.
Felicitating the medal winners here, he said, "My heartiest congratulations to all the medal winners, the entire Indian contingent, the Athletics' Federation of India and everyone associated with athletics in the country on this proud achievement."
Stating that Odisha took up the challenge despite the fact that it had less than three months to make necessary arrangements and preparations for the Championships, the Chief Minister said, "I am gladdened by the feedback that I have received from various quarters that this was the best ever Asian Athletics Championships." The performance of the Indian team at the Championships has been an icing on the cake, he said.
"All of us are extremely proud and delighted that India not only topped the medals table but also registered its highest ever medal tally as well as the highest ever haul of gold medals in 44-year history of AAC," he said.
