Dists awarded for population control efforts

Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena stressed on promotion of Post Partum Family Planning (PPFP) services among women delivering babies in State-run health facilities.

BHUBANESWAR: Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena stressed on promotion of Post Partum Family Planning (PPFP) services among women delivering babies in State-run health facilities.

Speaking at a World Population Day function here, Jena said the State Government has taken comprehensive measures to ensure quality care while providing family planning services. Need-based family planning interventions fitting into the requirement of each district are being implemented, said Jena and directed authorities concerned to emphasise on promoting role of men in family planning.

Nuapada, Malkangiri and Gajapati were awarded best districts in sterilisation operation while Rayagada, Koraput and Nuapada were awarded for conducting most vasectomy procedures last year.

Dr Rabindra Nath Mishra from Jajpur district and Dr Sujnanendra Mishra from Balangir were awarded for best performance in conducting minilap operation.

Health and ASHA workers, surgeons, ANM and NGOs from 14 districts were also felicitated and awarded. Among others, Director of National Health Mission Shalini Pandit, Director of Family Welfare Dr Binod Kumar Mishra and Joint Director (Family Welfare) Dr Ajit Kumar Mohanty were present.
