Man arrested on fraud charges

The Industrial Area police have arrested a man for duping elderly persons on the pretext of helping them; Gold ornaments weighing 200 gms, 4 lakh cash, a motorcycle and six mobile phones seized.

BALASORE: The Industrial Area police have arrested a man for allegedly duping elderly persons on the pretext of helping them. Gold ornaments weighing 200 gms, `4 lakh cash, a motorcycle and six mobile phones have been seized from him.

The accused identified as Ananta Panda alias Babu(35), a resident of Samil Hansanpur under Rupsa police limits has been produced in the court after interrogation.   

He would approach elderly persons on the pretext of helping them, but would soon disappear after duping them of their money and valuables.  IIC of Industrial Area police station Paresh Rout said Panda had duped many aged persons in and around Balasore town. He was caught following a police complaint lodged on April 27 by Madhabilata Sahu (57), a resident of Jogeswarpur here.

He came across the woman while she was returning from a private clinic. Identifying as her son’s friend, Panda offered to give her a lift on his motorcycle. He successfully persuaded the victim to give her ornaments, mobile and cash to him in wake of police checking near Remuna Golai.

After taking the valuables from the woman, he asked her to wait for a while and fled the spot.  He was arrested from his house in Rupsa.
