BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has asked all the collectors to be on alert in view of the prediction of heavy rainfall to be triggered by a low pressure, which has formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal off the North Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal coast.

According to the IMD-Bhubaneswar, the system is likely to further intensify into a depression. Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at a few places in coastal Odisha. Heavy rainfall is expected over districts of interior Odisha.

The IMD predicted that very heavy rainfall is expected in South and adjoining coastal districts from Sunday to July 18. Very heavy rainfall is likely in north interior districts of Odisha on July 19 and 20. Thundershower is also expected at most places in the remaining districts during the period, it said.
In a letter, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) and Secretary in the Disaster Management Department Bishnupada Sethi has asked all the collectors to keep a close watch on the situation and take appropriate action as required.

The SRC asked the Collectors to alert the field officials and ensure that rainfall measurement is taken on time. Data should be updated in the rainfall monitoring portal and intimated to State Emergency Office, he said and asked them to send the daily situation report. The SRC said the issue should be brought to his notice in case of any emergency.
