CUTTACK: Dial a number to register a complaint with anti-corruption wing. People can now lodge a complaint through a phone call if they are asked for bribe in different rural housing schemes.
Informing about the new measure, Vigilance Director Dr RP Sharma said the Vigilance Department on Thursday launched seven dedicated phone lines to receive complaints directly from people regarding any bribery issue relating to the scheme. This is aimed at intensifying the special drive against corruption in Rural Housing Scheme, he added.
Addressing media persons here, Dr Sharma said the Vigilance officials have been directed to act immediately after receiving complaints. The cooperation of people has also been sought to end the menace of corruption in implementation of different rural housing schemes, said Dr Sharma.
As many as 37 cases, including five each in Balasore and Koraput, six each in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, seven in Berhampur and eight in Sambalpur districts have been registered so far. As many as 42 Panchayat Executive Officers, four Gram Panchayat Technical Assistants, 4 Junior Engineers, an SI of School, a Progressive Assistant and two Welfare Extension officers are accused of misappropriating Government money to the tune of `86 lakh, he said.
The Vigilance department which has initiated 76 open inquiries, conducted 48 secret verifications, 45 inquiries on petitions and 196 surprise checks so far, Sharma added.
As on date, the department has conducted inquiries and verifications in total 402 instances throughout the State, he added. Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Khurda, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Ganjam, Phulbani, Cuttack, Jajpur and Kendrapara are the leading districts so far, Sharma informed.
