Irate villagers attack policemen, damage three vehicles in Odisha

At least three cops were injured when residents of Gudupangi village in Odisha's Nayagarh district attacked them on Saturday. 

NAYAGARH: At least three cops were injured when residents of Gudupangi village in Odisha's Nayagarh district attacked them on Saturday. 

Sources said tensions erupted after Gudupangi residents blocked the construction of a road linking Balabhadrapur and Dipamala village. The Gudupangi residents has been demanding that it to pass through their village. But they alleged that despite their repeated demands, no one paid any attention. The road was sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

When informed about villagers blocking the construction of the road, police reached there to maintain law and order. However, the irate villagers attacked them. 

“The locals damaged a JCB machine and a police van. Now the situation is under control. Senior officials from the district administration have reached the spot and are discussing issues with the agitating residents,” said a police official.

Meanwhile, the villagers have convened a meeting to decide on further course of action and one platoon of armed police force has been deployed to thwart any further untoward incident.
