PARADIP: Vehicular traffic was paralysed on Cuttack-Paradip State highway for five hours after a security guard of Odisha Stevedores Ltd (OSL) was killed and another seriously injured in an accident near Station Chowk here on Monday. Following the mishap, irate locals blocked the highway at Atharbanki demanding compensation and employment for the victims.
Sources said Pabitra Nayak of Erasama was working as security guard in the office of OSL. After completing his duty, Nayak along with one of his colleagues was going home when a speed car hit them. While Nayak died on the spot, his colleague was rushed to SCB Medical College. As the news spread, locals rushed to the spot and blocked the highway by keeping Nayak's body on the road. The blockade was withdrawn after OSL authorities assured them to provide maintenance for the deceased's family members.
