BJB students protest poor food

Girl students of BJB Autonomous College staged demonstration outside the ladies hostel on Tuesday protesting substandard quality of food being served to them.

BHUBANESWAR: Girl students of BJB Autonomous College staged demonstration outside the ladies hostel on Tuesday protesting substandard quality of food being served to them. The hostel inmates apparently found insects in the food served to them in the morning.

At least 200 inmates of New Ladies hostel gathered in front of the gate raising slogans against the college management. They alleged that although the matter has been brought to the notice of the hostel warden and college principal several times in the past, no steps have been taken so far. The students further alleged they face frequent power cuts and water shortage.

College Principal Nawaz Hassan said, the hostel authorities have been given strict orders to discard any food item if insects are found in it. Some girls also demanded that they would wish to have their breakfast outside the college and the authorities have agreed to that. “Those who are willing to have breakfast in the hostel canteen to save time, will be served food,” he said.  A generator will be also installed in the hostel within this week to help the students study during power cuts. A deep borewell would also be dug up to address water shortage.
